The London Skin and Hair Clinic, a private Dermatology clinic in central London, is now offering medical dermatology consultations in Polish, Serbian and Spanish languages. Mr Bruno Ballardin, Practice Manager at the clinic, explained that being based in central London meant that the clinic saw patients living in London or visiting London who didn’t have English as their first language.
“Our team of Dermatologists already see patients from the Middle East region who travel to London for expert dermatology diagnosis and treatment, and often the Embassies organise Translators to accompany these patients”, said Mr Ballardin. “The Dermatologists these patients want to see include Dr Jemima Mellerio who is a leading expert on blistering and genetic skin conditions including Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and Dr Martin Wade who specialises in hair loss and scalp conditions in women and children.”
The clinic now offers Serbian dermatology consultations with Dr Anna Chapman, on Tuesday afternoons and Fridays. Dr Anna Chapman treats a broad range of dermatology conditions including acne, rosacea, eczema and allergies, psoriasis, genital dermatoses and paediatric dermatology, mole checks and skin cancer. “Not everyone knows that Dermatologists also diagnose and treat conditions affecting the genitals”, explains Mr Ballardin. “In Europe Dermatologists are typically called ‘Dermatologists and Venereologists’ and Dr Anna Chapman is suitably qualified and experienced to be able to help patients with these often distressing conditions.”
Polish dermatology consultations are available on Thursday mornings with Dr Monika Saha. Dr Monika Saha consults on all general and paediatric dermatology. Although Dr Saha doesn’t speak Polish herself, she is supported by Anna, a staff member at the clinic who translates for patients during the appointments.
Dr Tony Downs, is able to offer Spanish language dermatology consultations on Fridays at the clinic. Dr Downs specialises in medical laser procedures, skin cancer diagnosis and management as well as general dermatology.
“We believe that it is important to ensure that our Dermatologists get the most accurate medical history when seeing patients, and to ensure that patients fully understand the treatment plan that the Dermatologist is recommending. We feel that offering the medical consultation in another language will assist us to do just that.”
All patients who attend a medical consultation at the clinic receive a written medical report outlining the diagnosis and treatment plan to further ensure that patients understand what the Dermatologist has explained during their consultation.
