Services > Allergy testing
What's involved?
We can offer allergy testing based on a blood test or patch testing and will discuss with you the one that is most relevant to your condition. Patch testing is more relevant for potential allergens that come into contact with the skin, whereas blood testing is often used for inhaled or ingested allergens. How long does it take?
The tests themselves are relatively quick. Results for blood tests are normally available within 48-72 hours. Patch testing requires 3 sessions spaced out over a week. The patches are applied during the first session and the readings are taken during the second and third sessions. What is the success rate?
The allergy tests used are the most accurate available. Reaction to a food may be an intolerance rather than an allergy. Excluding potential allergens is also an important part of treatment. Patch testing is not suitable for very young children.Reaction to a food may be an intolerance rather than an allergy.
