Dermal fillers

What's involved?

A dermal filler (e.g. Teosyal® and Restylane®) is a substance which is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles. Fillers can be used to:
•Fill out lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead.
•Provide facial contouring through smoothing out the hollows and altering the facial contour
•Treat AIDS patients whose face become sunken due to the loss of fatty tissue

There are three types of fillers that we use routinely. Hyaluronic acid fillers (e.g. Teosyal® and Restlylane®), collagen-based products and poly-l-lactic acid based products (e.g. Sculptra®).

The filler is injected, usually without the need for local anaesthetic, into the lines and defects to plump them out.

Our preferred filler is Teosyal as we have found it delivers the best results, however we will use whichever product our patients request.

How long does it take?

Treatments usually take around 30 minutes. You get an experienced Dermatologist administering the procedure, not a non-medical practitioner or beautician.

What is the success rate?

The effects of the filler lasts from 4 months to 2 years depending on the type and the grade of the filler used. There is now evidence that filling wrinkles causes stretching of the skin back to it’s previous structure and can induce some repair of the tissue.
