Facial volume loss, sunken cheeks

Overview

There are many causes of facial volume loss and sunken cheeks. As we age, we lose tissue volume. Significant weight loss and the symptoms of HIV / AIDS can also result in facial volume loss.

Symptoms and signs

The cheeks are less prominent and the jowls and cheek lines become more noticable.

Treatment

Treatment can involve the use of dermal fillers (e.g. TeosyalŽ and RestylaneŽ) to plump individual lines and add volume to broader areas of the face including the cheek bones and the lower face.
