Overview

There are a number of skin conditions which can affect the genitals and can be due to inflammation, infections, pre-cancerous lesions, pigmented lesions and itchy skin. These conditions can cause discomfort, pain and embarrassment. Accurate diagnosis and treatment is important to treat the condition, restore quality of life and prevent the spread of infection.

Symptoms and signs

Quite often these conditions may be without symptoms or be seen as a red, scaly lesion. Other symptoms include pain, tenderness and itching. Lesions can also weep or have a discharge.
