Wrinkles and furrows

Medical terms

Wrinkles

Common terms

Wrinkles, furrows, crow’s feet, laughter lines

Overview

Wrinkles typically appear as a result of the ageing process, sun damage, smoking and other factors.

Symptoms and signs

Sagging skin as well as the repeated action of the muscles of facial expression, such as the frown muscles, cause wrinkles. They can be prominent around the eyes (crows feet), around the mouth, on the forehead, between the eyebrows or on the cheeks.

Treatment

Treatment can include the use of skin care products recommended by Dermatologists, the use of botulinum toxins (e.g. Botox®), and dermal fillers including hyaluronic acid (e.g. Teosyal® and Restylane®) and poly-l-lactic acid (e.g. Sculptra®).
