Is a skin cancer blood test on the horizon?Researchers from the Dundee University have identified that levels of the gene TFP12 in DNA in the blood could be key to identifying patients whose skin cancer has spread.
At the presentation at the National Cancer Research Institute Conference researchers explained that a blood test could be the basis for discovering how advanced the skin cancer is, as well as an early warning system on spreading.
The next step in the research is to develop a panel of similar genetic markers to identify patients who need extra treatment to fight skin cancer.
