A nutritional supplement including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and antioxidants was beneficial in treating female pattern hair loss through improving hair density and reducing the telogen percentage, according to a study published online in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
The 6 month study involved 120 women and assessed the benefit of supplementation with Omega 3 and Omega 6 and antioxidants. Researchers assessed the change in hair density, changes in telogen hair percentage and diameter distribution of anagen hair.
After 6 months of treatment, researchers found a superior improvement in the hair density in the supplemented grou, The telogen hair percentage was significantly reduced, the proportion of nonvellus anagen hair was increased, the trichometer index increased and a majority of the supplemented subjects reported a reduction in hair loss (89.9%), as well as an improvement in hair diameter (86.1%) and hair density (87.3%).
