Tonsillectomy may be an option that can result in improvement in psoriasis, for patients with recalcitrant psoriasis associated with episodes of tonsillitis, according to a review published in the February issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Researchers reviewed 20 studies involving 545 psoriasis patients who were evaluated for or underwent tonsillectomy. Of the 410 reported cases of patients with psoriasis who underwent tonsillectomy, 290 experienced improvement in their psoriasis. While some of these patients experienced sustained improvement in psoriasis, others experienced a relapse after the procedure
