Insured Patient Guide

Insured Patient Guide

Many of the Consultant Dermatologists who practice at The London Skin and Hair Clinic are recognised by UK private health insurers and many international insurers. You can check the individual profiles of each of our Dermatologists here to see which private health insured patients they can accept with direct billing, and which they do not.

Our Clinic is a recognised treatment facility with all UK private health insurers and many international insurers so if your outpatient procedure is approved by your insurer it can be performed in our surgical theatre, with no need to book in with another hospital or clinic.

We accept patients from all the private health insurers shown on this page. If you don’t see your insurer listed, you would book as a self paying patient and speak with your insurer to see if they will reimburse you for any of the charges. For international insurers not shown we can provide itemised invoices and medical reports to submit to your insurer.

We do not require a referral to book an appointment with a Dermatologist, however many private health insurers require a GP referral as part of their process. We recommend that you check with your health insurer on their process prior to booking an appointment.

We bill within the fee schedules of all UK health insurers (fee-assured). Please note that some insurers may not cover all of the consultation charges, but your insurer should be able to advise on what they will and will not cover for. (1)

We offer direct billing of insurers as a service to patients, however patients are still liable in full for their charges. In the event that the insurer makes a deduction for an excess, co-payment, policy limit, or in the event the insurer later decides they are not covering the charges, the patient is liable in full.

If your consultation, treatment or tests is approved with one of the insurers below, we will bill your insurer directly if you provide a valid membership number and authorisation code in advance of your appointment. If you do not have a valid membership number and authorisation code prior to your appointment you will need to pay in full and we will provide you with an itemised invoice to submit to your insurer.

We differ from most private clinics as we submit a single invoice to insurers covering the Doctors fee, diagnostic tests and facility and clinic fees. Other clinics or Dermatologists may bill their patients and then patients will receive a separate invoice from a laboratory and a separate invoice from a hospital.

If the Dermatologist recommends tests or a surgical procedure, we always ask patients to contact the insurer for preapproval. We work closely with all health insurers so are happy to help you with this while you are at our clinic. Some insurers require a medical report to be provided prior to approving diagnostic tests or surgical procedures and again we are happy to produce this for you.

We ask that patients confirm coverage by their insurer prior to every appointment including follow-up appointment, treatments (including injections and cryotherapy) and tests.

We are unable to invoice insurers for laser consultations and laser treatment, treatment of cosmetic conditions, prescription items, products, laser procedures and aesthetic procedures. Under our agreement with the private health insurers, we are required to provide copies of their members medical files if requested.

Embassy Patients

We work closely with many of the embassies and consulates in London and are happy to invoice them directly for medical costs when a letter of guarantee is provided in advance of the appointment. A letter of guarantee must be provided in advance and must detail the name of the Dermatologist, our clinic name and address, the date and time of the appointment, and confirm that the Doctors charges, treatment charges and diagnostic tests will be covered. Without a valid letter of guarantee patients must pay in full on the day of the appointment.

agreement with the private health insurers, we are required to provide copies of their members medical files if requested.
