What is involved in Trichology Scalp Treatments?

The Clinician will clean your hair using products which are suitable for your scalp condition, gentle, moisturising, or anti-bacterial.

They will apply natural oils or prescription topical products (containing coal tar, sulphur and salicylic acid) to the scalp and hair. This acts on the flaking and scaling to help remove it.

Steam treatment loosens the scale further, provides light conditioning to the hair and infuses moisture into the hair and scalp.

The Clinician shampoo’s the hair and scalp with a medicated shampoo and may use a conditioner or leave on product depending on the scalp condition.

Infra-red and/or UV light therapy may be provided to help heal the skin.

Finally there is light drying of the hair.

What are the risks or potential side effects of Trichology Scalp Treatments?

Possible reaction to the products although this is highly unlikely as they are hypoallergenic.

What aftercare is required for Trichology Scalp Treatments?

This really depends on the severity of your scalp condition. To ensure you maintain the benefits of the in-house treatment for as long as possible you may need to carry out some mild treatments at home with medicated shampoos and the medicated creams.

What is the cost of Trichology Scalp Treatments?

An initial scalp treatment is £130 and lasts for approximately 60-75 minutes. Subsequent maintenance scalp treatments are £75 and last around 60 minutes.

Private health insurers do not cover the costs of trichology scalp treatments, so all treatments need to be paid for on the day.

How often do I need a scalp treatment?

Again, this really depends on the severity of your condition. For thicker more adherent scaling once a week till the scalp is cleared; for milder cases once a month may be sufficient. In some instances, it may only be when you notice the flaking or scaling returning.

Is there any preparation needed before having Trichology Scalp Treatments?

No preparation is needed.

Who would benefit from Trichology Scalp Treatments?

Anyone that is suffering from a severe itchy, scaly, flaky scalp which they are finding difficult to manage at home.
